Auteur Pascal FAVRE (1949)
Commentaire :
Pascal Favre (b. 1949) undertook musical studies only in 1970 when, upon leaving Recruits' School where he played trumpet in the army band, he was selected to become the conductor of a military fanfare band. During his tuition, he had become familiar with the great variety of sound colours and harmonic functions in an orchestra. From then, his curiosity was aroused and he decided to enlarge and develop his knowledge of music. He studied the trumpet with Jean-Pierre Matthez (BIM/Brass Bulletin) at the Conservatory of Lausanne where he was awarded the Price for the Best Brass Examination in 1976 and obtained a diploma in music education in 1978. Subsequently he taught the trumpet at the Conservatory of Lausanne for three years while following Michel Rochat's conducting class. He was then appointed teacher of wind ensemble conducting. He also studied orchestration and composition in the class of Jean Balissat. Pascal Favre was awarded his First Prize in Conducting in 1982. He developed his musical knowledge further by attending Gregorian chant classes in Solesmes and conducting classes in Naples as well as James Stamp's and Thomas Stevens's trumpet academies. Pascal Favre is currently a teacher of wind band conducting and the conductor of the concert band of the Conservatory of Lausanne. He also teaches conducting and orchestration at the Conservatory of Sion and has been appointed conductor of the Brass Band of Crissier. Pascal Favre is the vice-president of the commission of the Swiss Music Association (A.S.M., Association Suisse des Musiques). He conducted, during several years, bands of the highest level such as the fanfare orchestra Union Instrumentale de Payerne, the Concert Band of the City of Berne and the Valaisan Brass Ensemble. During the fourteen years spent as a member and as the president of the musical commission of the Vaudois Wind Band Association, he founded the summer master-classes, the youth orchestra and the Vaudois contest for solo instruments and wind ensembles. Pascal Favre is the author of several arrangements and of more than forty compositions characterized by their great originality. His most recent works, Jambo: an African Safari, La Légende de Kuno and the piece for accordion orchestra, Toccata, Airs et Danses, have received a warm welcome. El Camino de Santiago was awarded the second prize by the jury of the International Contest of Composition for Concert Band organized by the Musical Federation of the region of Poitou-Charentes in France. This work was also selected to be a compulsory piece in the highest category of the 2000 competitions of the Confédération Musicale de France (C.M.F.). Pascal Favre is also the author of the theme tune to the weekly program on Swiss radio Le Kiosque à Musiques. Pascal Favre regularly receives invitations as an adjudicator. He was recently a member of the juries of the Munich European Brass Band Contest in Germany, of the Strasbourg International Competitions and of thePascal Favre (1949) beginnt erst 1970, sich mit Musik zu beschäftigen.
